Brenden Hurley scored twice in regulation and again in the shootout as the Dauphin Kings won their Manitoba Junior Hockey League home opener 4-3 over the Virden Oil Capitals on Friday night.
Ryan Luiten netted the other goal for Dauphin (2-1-0) and Guillaume Naud added two assists.
Kolby Woods, Curtis Houlden and Myles Nykoluk replied for the Oil Caps (2-0-2), who came back from a 3-0 deficit to force extra time. Jon Gaudet had two assists for Virden, which received a 39-save performance from Ty Edmonds.
In Friday’s other games, it was: Portage Terriers 4, Neepawa Natives 3; Selkirk Steelers 4, Steinbach Pistons 3; and OCN Blizzard 3, Winkler Flyers 2 (OT).
Terriers 4 Natives 3
At Neepawa, Zach Waldvogel’s power-play goal midway through the third period proved to be the winner for Portage (3-0-0). Waldvogel and Kajon McKay both had a goal and an assist for the Terriers.
Landon Thompson scored twice for the Natives (1-2-0) and Brandonite Brayden Cuthbert added two assists. It was Cuthbert’s first hockey game since sustaining a concussion on Jan. 22, 2011 as a member of the Moose Jaw Warriors. Justin Dalebozik scored the other goal for Neepawa.
MAKING MOVES:
The Waywayseecappo Wolverines traded the Hockey Canada rights of 20-year-old defenceman Taylor Armstrong and future considerations to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Kindersley Klippers for 20-year-old defencemen David Haaf and Zane Morin.
The Natives traded the Hockey Canada rights of 19-year-old defenceman Craig Sigvaldason to the Terriers for future considerations.
