Dauphin hoping to land Western Canada Cup

The Dauphin Kings are vying with the Portage Terriers, Selkirk Steelers and Winnipeg Blues for the right to host the 2014 Western Canada Cup, the Manitoba Junior Hockey League has announced.

The new event will feature the champions of the Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. Junior A hockey leagues, with the first championship to be played in Nanaimo, B.C., in 2013. The winner and runner-up will advance to the RBC Cup, with the MJHL announcing Monday that the 2014 host site will be determined before the end of October.

The MJHL, which will no longer compete in the Anavet Cup between MJHL and SJHL teams, will trim its schedule from 62 to 60 games in 2012-13, with the new Virden Oil Capitals officially joining the Sher-Wood Division after playing last season in the Addison Division as the Winnipeg Saints.
