The Wesman Diamond Dawgs clinched the provincial Junior AA baseball Championship at Koskie Field in Winnipeg on Saturday.
The Diamond Dawgs, who had a 1-0 series lead coming into Saturday, lost the first game of a double header to even the series before shelling the St. Boniface Legionnaires 12-1 to win the championship.
In the final, Ryan Argue pitched a complete-game win, giving up one run on five hits while striking out three and walking two.
Alastair McFadden led the Diamond Dawgs, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Mike McFadden was also 2-for-4 with an RBI triple and Jordan old was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
In game two of the series, the Diamond Dawgs lost 6-5 after pitcher Dunc Paddock struggled to find the strike zone in the late innings. Paddock took the loss, throwing seven innings, giving up six runs on four hits, while striking out seven and walking 12.
Ryan Murray was 1-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, Ben Henry was 1-for-3 with an RBI double and Ian Barr was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.
The Diamond Dawgs won the first game 5-4 at Brandon Field last Monday.
