The Wesman Diamond Dawgs are one win away from clinching the provincial Junior AA baseball championship.

Dunc Paddock struck out seven over seven innings of work while giving up four runs — two earned — on three hits and five walks to lead the Diamond Dawgs to a 5-4 victory over the St. Boniface Legionnaires in Game 1 of the best-of-3 provincial final at Brandon Field on Monday. Game 2 and Game 3, if necessary, will be played on Saturday at Winnipeg’s Koskie Field.

Ryan Murray went 3-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored, while Jordan Old was 2-for-3 with an RBI-double and scored twice for the Diamond Dawgs.

Alex Hawley took the loss for the Legionnaires, giving up five earned runs on nine hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings.
