Former Brandon Wheat Kings sniper Tyler Dittmer helped the South East Prairie Thunder clinch a spot in the Allan Cup on Sunday night.
Dittmer scored the overtime winner at 8:03 in a 3-2 victory over the Shellbrook (Sask.) Elks on Sunday night in Steinbach to complete a sweep of the best-of-five Manitoba-Saskatchewan Senior AAA hockey qualifying series.
Brad Purdie and Riley Dudar also scored third-period goals as the Thunder battled back from a 2-0 deficit. The Thunder, who also beat the Elks 2-1 in Game 1 on Friday and 4-2 in Game 2 on Saturday, now advance to the Allan Cup Senior AAA national championship, scheduled for April 14-19 in Dundas, Ont.
South East’s roster also features the likes of former Wheat Kings defenceman Justin Kurtz and centre Terry Yake, as well as Brandonite Devon LeBlanc and Hartney’s Nick Cowan and Mark Agnew.
