Eagles soar in Saskatoon

It was a successful weekend for Brandon Eagle gymnasts at the Western Canadian championships in Saskatoon on the weekend as all five athletes came home with at least one medal.

Quinn Skrupa had the best event as she showed she’s not just one of the best gymnasts in her age group in Manitoba on the weekend, but the best in Western Canada. Skrupa, 10, finished first all around in the

P5 tyro competition. The Brandonite scored 54.550 points all around, and also topped the vault, uneven bars and floor events. She finished third in beam to earn medals in each of her events and was a part of Team Manitoba, which won a bronze medal.

Skrupa wasn’t the only Brandonite with a solid meet as Brook Bradshaw finished first all around in the P4 novice competition with a score of 50.650. Bradshaw also was the best gymnast in her age group on the vault and beam, while she finished fourth on the floor and sixth on the bars.

In the P5 open competition, Alex Empey scored 12.6500 in her uneven bars final to claim a silver medal. She placed 12th all around, while Taylor Goodon was 15th. Both were a part of Team Manitoba, which won a gold medal.

Shea Taylor, who’s also from Brandon, won gold in the bars final with a score of 13.300 and placed 11th all around in the P5 novice age group.
