Brandonite Joel Edmundson picked up an assist on Sebastian Wannstrom’s power-play goal for the NHL’s St. Louis Blues rookies on Sunday as they dropped a 4-1 decision to the Detroit Red Wings rookies at the Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Mich.
Edmundson, a 20-year-old defenceman, also fired four shots on goal in the game. Killarney’s Reid Gow, a defenceman, had one shot on goal, while Brandon Wheat King blue-liner Nick Walters posted a plus/minus of -2 in the game.
Meanwhile, former Brandon Wheat King Klarc Wilson fired one shot on goal and had a plus/minus of -3 as the New York Rangers fell 4-2 to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
At the Young Stars Classic in Penticton, B.C., Brandonite Mike Ferland assisted on Markus Granlund’s goal, in the Calgary Flames’ 3-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks. Ferland finished the game with a plus/minus of +1, while Brandon Wheat King defenceman Eric Roy was -1 for Calgary.
At the Rookie Tournament in London, Ont., former Wheat Kings captain Mark Stone scored the final two goals for the Ottawa Senators as they came back from an early 2-0 deficit to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-2. Meanwhile, Wheat Kings forward Richard Nejezchleb played on the Pittsburgh Penguins’ third line as they fell 3-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks.
On Saturday, Stone set up the game’s first goal to help the Senators beat the Blackhawks 4-3. In the other game, Nejezchleb and the Pittsburgh Penguins rookies fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Maple Leafs.
