Former Brandonite Dean Evason has his first head coaching job in pro hockey.
The longtime assistant coach with the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals has jumped to the Nashville Predators organization where he will coach the Preds’ top farm club, the American Hockey League’s Milwaukee Admirals.
The Capitals have a 294-206-74 record since Evason, 47, joined the staff. A veteran of 803 NHL games as a player, Evason helped Canada win world hockey gold in 1997 as a player/coach. He is also a former WHL bench boss with the Kamloops Blazers and Vancouver Giants, and spent one season as co-coach of the Calgary Hitmen.
