Wawanesa’s Perry Fisher kept his season alive and forced two rounds of tiebreakers in the Brandon Sun Westman Super League of Curling late Wednesday night by defeating Pilot Mound’s Curtis McCannell 7-2 in five ends.
McCannell (5-6) could have clinched a playoff spot with a victory, but gave up deuces in the first two ends and a three in the fifth to fall into a four-way tie for the sixth and final playoff spot with Fisher, Carberry’s Kelly Marnoch and Brandon’s Kelly Skinner.
In Wednesday’s other games at the Brandon Curling Club, it was: Skinner 6, Terry McNamee 5; Marnoch 6, Mark Anderson 2; Brian Fowler 8, Jerry Chudley 2; Duane Lang 7, Rob Van Kommer 2; and Jim Renwick 6, Tina Kozak 2.
Skinner 6 McNamee 5
Skinner stole two in the second end and scored one with the hammer in the eighth to slip past Brandon’s McNamee (9-2) and into the tiebreakers. McNamee finished the regular season in second place.
Fowler 8 Chudley 2
Brandon’s Fowler (6-5) scored three in the sixth and stole two in the seventh to secure a playoff spot. Neepawa’s Chudley (6-5) managed a pair of singles and will have a rematch with Fowler in the first round of the playoffs on Feb. 3.
Marnoch 6 Anderson 2
Marnoch stole three in the third end and two more in the fourth to secure his spot in the tiebreakers. Anderson (0-11), who curls out of the Riverview club, managed singles in the first and sixth ends, before shaking hands.
Lang 7 Van Kommer 2
In his first year as a skip, Duane Lang (10-1) finished on top of the league standings. Lang’s Riverview foursome scored three in the third end to take a 4-2 lead and stole three points after that to end the playoff hopes of Van Kommer’s Carberry team (4-7).
Renwick 6 Kozak 2
Brandon’s Renwick (8-3) scored a pair of deuces early to secure the win and third place in the standings. Kozak’s Carberry squad (3-8) managed a pair of singles in the six-end game.
