Five kills for Mahon against Puerto Rico

Canada failed to win a medal at the NORCECA Women’s Olympic Volleyball Qualification Tournament in Tijuana, Mexico.

Tammy Mahon, who’s from the southwestern Manitoba town of Holland, and the Canadian crew fell 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 25-14, 23-25, 15-11) to Puerto Rico in the bronze medal match on Saturday night. Mahon, Canada’s 32-year-old captain, finished the match with five kills, two blocks and one ace.

Only the tournament’s top team, the Dominican Republic, advanced to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England. The Dominican Republic beat Cuba 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 27-29, 25-20) in the championship match.
