Brandon Sun - PRINT EDITION

Flyers foil Natives

Travis Marit scored a goal in a four-point performance to power the Winkler Flyers to a 6-3 triumph over the Neepawa Natives in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League on Monday.

Elsewhere, it was: Steinbach Pistons 6, Selkirk Steelers 5; and Portage Terriers 3, Winnipeg Blues 3.

On Sunday, it was: Virden Oil Capitals 4, Waywayseecappo Wolverines 1; Dauphin Kings 6, Terriers 4; and Pistons 5, Blues 2. On Saturday, it was: Natives 5, OCN Blizzard 2; Wolverines 3, Terriers 2; Kings 4, Swan Valley Stampeders 2; and Flyers 4, Oil Capitals 3.

In Winkler, Tristan Keck, Michael Sofillas, Scott Gail, Joel Allaire and Nathan Karlowsky also scored for the Flyers (18-33-4). Brady Bouchard, Luke Karakas and Reigan Buchanan of McCreary replied for the Natives (13-36-5).

Pistons 6 Steelers 5

In Selkirk, Suede Omeasoo scored with 2:24 left in regulation time to lift the Pistons (38-14-2). Parker Thomas paced the league-leading Steelers (44-7-4) with a goal and an assist.

Terriers 3 Blues 1

In Portage la Prairie, Jon Carlson, Tyler Jeanson and Elkhorn’s Taylor Sanheim scored for the Terriers (35-15-6), while Warren Callis scored for the Blues (28-20-6).

Oil Capitals 4 Wolverines 1

In Virden, Kurt Johnas netted a pair of goals for the host Oil Capitals (31-18-3), while Curtis Houlden and Souris’s Ben Williams added singles. Robert Briem replied for the Wolverines (16-36-3), who got 24 saves from Brandonite Justin Holder.

Kings 6 Terriers 4

In Dauphin, Jared Morris had two goals and an assist for the Sher-Wood Division-leading Kings (36-16-2), while Souris’s Tanner Butler and Virden’s Cameron Whyte also scored. Sanheim replied with a pair of goals for the Terriers, while Brett Orr, who’s also from Elkhorn, added three assists.

Pistons 5 Blues 2

In Steinbach, Justin Augert recorded his first hat trick of the season to lead the Pistons.

Natives 5 Blizzard 2

In The Pas, Luke Karakas scored twice for the Natives, while Robby Moar set up three goals. Jaret Smith added a goal and an assist for Neepawa. Tyler Grove set up both goals for the Blizzard (17-34-5).

Wolverines 3 Terriers 2

In Waywayseecappo, Jared Sprink scored the winning goal in the third period as the Wolverines overcame a 2-0 deficit. Craig Fournier and Johl Swedlo had the other Wayway goals, while Holder stopped 25 shots for the win. Sanheim scored one of the Portage goals.

Kings 4 Stampeders 2

In Swan River, Dylan Butler scored twice for the Kings, while Brandonite Mitch Van Teeling added one. Brandonite Brayden Cuthbert set up Ryan Cooper for the game-winner. B.J. Avery of Clearwater and Max Flanagan replied for the Stampeders (25-29-2).

Flyers 4 Oil Capitals 3

In Virden, Tristan Keck had two goals for the Flyers. Artsiom Kalashnikov, Corey Haverstick and Brandonite Cody Nelson scored for the Oil Caps.

Wold player of the week

Kings forward Brent Wold was named MJHL player of the week after scoring three goals and setting up five others to help Dauphin go 4-0-1.
