Fordyce tops field at King Spud Classic

Brandon’s Stacey Fordyce won her first bonspiel of the season by beating Winnipeg’s Lisa DeRiviere 7-5 in the King Spud Classic at Carberry on Sunday afternoon.

Fordyce, and her team of Kelsey Russill, Janelle Schwindt and Roslynn Ripley earned $1,500 and 30 Manitoba Curling Tour points at the three-day event. Carberry’s Tina Kozak fell in a semifinal to DeRiviere.

Meanwhile, former Brandonite Nolan Thiessen, who plays lead for Kevin Koe, won his second straight World Curling Tour event on Sunday.

Koe stole a single point in the final end to beat former Brandonite Mike McEwen 6-5 in the Cactus Pheasant Classic at Brooks, Alta.
