Four more Westman teams have qualified to play in the provincial senior men’s curling championship.
Brandonites Lory Saban and Kelly McMechan secured their spots through the Westman regionals in Killarney on Sunday. Saban beat Hamiota’s Dale Brooks 5-4 in an extra end in the A-event final. McMechan, who took over at skip for Brian Fowler after he suffered a heart attack last month, then beat Brooks 5-4 in the B-event final.
McMechan and Saban will be playing on home ice at provincials, as the championship will be held at the Brandon Curling Club from Feb. 20-24. Neepawa’s Kelly Robertson will also be there, as he earned a spot at a berth bonspiel in November.
Curtis McCannell’s team from Pilot Mound will also be coming to the Wheat City for provincials as they beat Plumas’s Ron Kulbacki 8-2 in a playoff in the Central regionals in Manitou.
Meanwhile, in a battle of Dauphinites, Jim Todoruk beat Murray Woodward 4-3 in the Parkland playoff in Dauphin to also advance to provincials.
