Rob Fowler and his Brandon Curling Club team, as well as Kevin Koe’s squad that has former Brandonite Nolan Thiessen at lead, have both qualified for today’s playoffs at the World Curling Tour’s Point Optical Classic in Saskatoon.
Fowler, third Allan Lyburn, second Brendan Taylor and lead Derek Samagalski reached the quarter-finals through the C event, beating Saskatchewan’s Scott Manners 6-3 in their qualifier.
Fowler dropped into the C event with back-to-back losses to Alberta’s Kevin Martin and former Brandonite William Lyburn before rolling off wins over Alberta’s Tom Appelman and Saskatchewan’s Bruce Korte and Manners.
Koe’s team qualified through the B event, beating Alberta’s Brendan Bottcher 7-5 in their event final.
Stonewall’s Jared Kolomaya knocked out Lyburn with a 6-4 victory in the C-event quarter-finals.
