Brandon’s Brian Fowler and Pilot Mound’s Curtis McCannell took sole possession of the final two playoff spots in the Brandon Sun Westman Super League of Curling late Wednesday night.
Fowler (5-5) stole two points in both the seventh and eighth ends en route to a 9-6 win over Carberry’s Tina Kozak (3-7). The win moved Fowler into a tie for fifth and knocked Kozak out of the playoff race with one week to go in the regular season.
Fowler is tied with McCannell (5-5), who moved above the pack with a 6-1 win over Carberry’s Kelly Marnoch (4-6). McCannell stole four points in the contest.
In Wednesday’s other games, it was Terry McNamee 6, Perry Fisher 3; Duane Lang 6, Kelly Skinner 3; Jerry Chudley 5, Rob Van Kommer 3; and Jim Renwick 7, Mark Anderson 3.
McNamee 6 Fisher 3
McNamee’s Brandon-based squad (9-1) stole three in the fourth end to top Wawanesa’s Fisher (4-6) and secure a first-round bye in the Super League playoffs.
Lang 6 Skinner 3
Lang’s Riverview foursome (9-1) also clinched a first-round bye in the playoffs by topping Brandon’s Skinner (4-6). Lang scored three in the eighth to pull out the victory.
Chudley 5 Van Kommer 3
Neepawa’s Chudley (6-4) broke a 3-3 tie with a deuce in the eighth end to book his ticket to the playoffs. Carberry’s Van Kommer (4-6) tied the game with a deuce in the seventh end.
Renwick 7 Anderson 3
Brandon’s Renwick (7-3) scored four in the seventh end to secure a playoff spot and keep Anderson (0-10) and his Riverview team winless.
