Fowler rolling right along at Grand Slam

Brandon’s Rob Fowler rolled through the round-robin portion of The National with a 5-0 record in Port Hawkesbury, N.S.

Fowler ran his record to 5-0 at the World Curling Tour Grand Slam event, knocking off reigning world champion Glenn Howard of Coldwater, Ont., 7-2 in the Friday evening draw. Earlier in the day, Fowler and his team of Allan Lyburn, Richard Daneault and Derek Samagalski downed Switzerland’s Sven Michel 7-4 and Niklas Edin of Sweden 7-2.

In today’s quarter-finals, Fowler will face Calgary’s Kevin Koe, who has Brandonite Nolan Thiessen at lead. Koe went 3-2 in the round robin.

Also advancing to the quarter-finals were former Brandonite Mike McEwen and fellow Winnipegger Jeff Stoughton. McEwen went 4-1 in the round robin and will face Edin, while Stoughton was 3-2 and will play Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
