Friesen fans 13 for Cloverleafs

Pitcher Anthony Friesen overwhelmed the Oak River Dodgers on Tuesday night.

Friesen struck out 13 while tossing a five-hitter over nine innings to lead the first-place Brandon Cloverleafs to an 11-0 shutout in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League.

Meanwhile in Reston, the Brandon Marlins beat the host Rockets 4-2 in 11 innings.

At Andrews Field, Matt Gunning went 3-for-5 while Casey Clark was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored for the Cloverleafs (14-2-0), who host the Neepawa Farmers (1-11-0) tonight in Brandon.

Mike McFadden was 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Dodgers (5-9-0), while Brody Burnett took the loss, surrendering three runs on four hits and two walks over four innings of work.

Marlins 4 Rockets 2 (11 innings)

In Reston, Jesse Goertzen finished 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs, including an insurance run in the 11th inning to lead the second-place Marlins (11-4-1).

Sam McNeice struck out six over six innings of four-hit ball in relief to earn the win, after starter Paul Thompson worked the first five innings. Ryan Duncan went 2-for-5 with an RBI for Brandon.

Andrew Lochhead finished 3-for-4 with two walks and an RBI, while Zane Sawyer was 2-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored for the Rockets (4-9-1).

Mark Lacroix took the loss after giving up two runs on two hits while pitching the 11th inning after starter Cole Stober tossed 10 innings, surrendering a pair of unearned runs.
