Gaber has Manitoba off to a Strong start

Westman Wings’ Rylan Gundanson looks to pass the puck out from the corner following a collision with a Jets player in Friday’s AAA Hockey Challenge game at the Sportsplex.

Reise Gaber posted a hat trick and set up another goal for Manitoba Strong as it opened the second week of the Source for Sports AAA Challenge with an 8-1 win over the Renegades in the 1999-born age group on Friday.

Graham Wright added two goals and an assist for the Strong, while Reg Pohl of Douglas, who was selected by the Seattle Thunderbirds in Thursday’s WHL bantam draft, had a pair of helpers, and Reese Jones made 17 saves.

Kieran Guttormson replied for the Renegades, who got 25 saves from Connor Stewart.

The tournament continues today at all three rinks at the Keystone Centre and the Sportsplex.

1999 AGE GROUP

Prospects 4 Renegades 2

Sean Thornton scored once and set up three other goals for the Western Canada Top Prospects. Matt Lawrence and Guttormson scored for the Renegades.

2001 AGE GROUP

Jets Pride 3 Wings 1

Luke Seremet scored twice to pace the Jets Pride past the Westman Wings. Griffin Ryden scored for Westman.

Hawks 9 Crusaders 4

Josh Berger had three markers and a helper, while Griffin Asham-Moroz found the back of the net twice for the Hawks. Rylan Tongue scored twice for the Crusaders.

2000 AGE GROUP

Strong 10 Oilers 2

Layne Toder had a hat trick and five points for Manitoba Strong, while Grady Hobbs and Koby Morrisseau both scored twice. Willi Bosch had a goal and an assist for the Bakken Oilers.

Crusaders 4 Wolverines Black 1

Kyle Colewell scored a natural hat trick for the Crusaders. Mitchell Wilson scored for Wolverines Black.

Steelers 7 Punishers 5

Jacy Kennedy had three goals and an assist for the Steelers, while Jack Einarson added two goals and a helper. Lyndan McCallum had three goals and an assist for the Punishers.

Crusaders 5 Wolverines White 4

Matthew Tress netted a pair of markers for the Crusaders. Rodrick Rempel, Riley Duma, Owen Gilbert and Matt Major scored for Wolverines White. The Wolverines’ late game versus the Punishers was still in progress at press time.

Wolverines Black 5 Oilers 2

Wilson had a hat trick for the Wolverines, while Bosch had a goal and an assist for the Oilers.

Strong 5 Steelers 3

Morrisseau led the Strong with two goals and two assists. Kennedy scored twice for the Steelers.

2002 AGE GROUP

Predators 17 Crusaders 0

Dwayne McKenzie and Mitchell Madsen both had three goals and two helpers for the Northern Predators. Jordan Muhr made 45 saves for the Crusaders.

Mavericks 6 Prospects 2

Aden Gunn scored twice to pace the Mavericks. Mike Barron and Dreyden Spence replied for the Manitoba Prospects.
