Golden Bears 4th at JV championship

The Virden Golden Bears finished in fourth place in the provincial AAA/AAAA junior varsity girls high school basketball championship on Saturday in Winnipeg.

The Linden Christian Wings defeated the second-seeded Golden Bears 73-66 in the bronze-medal game.

The Killarney Raiders placed fourth in the A/AA junior varsity boys championship in Lac du Bonnet, falling 51-45 to the Carman Cougars in the third-place game. Logan Beazley of Killarney was named to the all-star team.

The MacGregor Mustangs and Glenboro Panthers were both eliminated in consolation semifinals.

Meanwhile, the Boissevain Broncos finished fourth in the A/AA JV girls championship at Grandview, losing 50-39 in the bronze game. The Souris Sabres lost 63-43 to the Warren Wildcats in the consolation final after knocking off the Carberry Cougars 59-32 in a consolation semifinal. Renee McCallum of Boissevain made the all-star team.
