Souris’ Jordan Greig netted his fifth goal of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League season as the Virden Oil Capitals slipped past the Swan Valley Stampeders 4-2 Wednesday night in Swan River.
Curtis Houlden and Conor Lockhart also scored for Virden (16-21-6), which got an empty-netter from Kolby Woods. Kyler Beckett made 39 saves to earn the win in net.
Brayden MacDonald and Kyle Smart scored for the host Stampeders (24-14-4).
In Wednesday’s other games, it was: OCN Blizzard 6, Neepawa Natives 4; and Steinbach Pistons 4, Portage Terriers 3.
Blizzard 6 Natives 4
At Neepawa, Garrick Gray scored a pair of goals, including an empty-netter, for the league-leading Blizzard (29-14-3), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Drake Lindsay led Neepawa (10-26-5) with one goal and two helpers. Brandonite Brayden Cuthbert and Landon Thomson both added one goal and one assist for the Natives.
Pistons 4 Terriers 3
At Steinbach, Richard Olson scored with 28 seconds left in regulation time to lift the Pistons (21-18-2) over the Terriers (23-14-1). Myles Nykoluk added a hat trick for Steinbach while Justin Baudry picked up four assists. Dauphinite Justin Slobozian had one assist for Portage.
