Brandon-born Keaton Gudz is tied for the lead after the first round of the CN Future Links Prairie Championship golf tournament at the Shilo Country Club.
Gudz, who now lives in Victoria, is tied with Winnipeg’s Zach Sackett after shooting 2-under-par 70 on Friday.
Brandonite Austin Dobrescu had a solid first round, shooting 2-over 74 to sit in a tie for fifth in the boys’ field of 58 golfers who came from as far away as B.C. and Quebec. Carberry’s Joel Baron is tied for 33rd place after shooting a 79, while Minnedosa’s Zane MacDonald posted a 97.
In the girls’ side of the draw, Erickson’s Bobbi Uhl is tied for 12th in the 19-player field after shooting an 86 on Friday. Brandonites Tianna Slate and Hayley Shanks shot 116 and 120, respectively. Calgary’s Jaclyn Lee, who’s on the national development team, leads the pack after shooting a 1-under 71.
The second round goes today before the 54-hole event wraps up on Sunday.
