Gudz tied for second after 71 in first round

Brandon-born Keaton Gudz is tied for second place in the juvenile division after the first round of the Canadian junior boys’ golf championships in Niagara Falls, Ont.

Gudz, a 15-year-old who now lives in Victoria, fired a round of 1-under-par 71 at the Legends on the Niagara Battlefield course to sit one stroke behind leader Henry Lee of Coquitlam, B.C., in the 16-and-under category.

Gudz is tied for ninth place in the overall competition, while Dauphin’s Connor Shaw, 18, is well back after opening the 72-hole event with an 84. Overall leader Patrick Murphy of Crossfield, Alta., opened by setting a course record at

8-<t$>under 64.
