David Haaf scored two goals and set up another as the Waywayseecappo Wolverines beat the Virden Oil Capitals 4-2 during the first day of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Showcase in Winnipeg on Friday.
Brett Lafond and Russell Turner both had a goal and an assist for Wayway (2-3-1), while Pilot Mound’s Brett Pinkerton picked up one helper.
Brandon’s Riley Feser made 30 saves to earn his first win of the season in Wayway’s net.
Richard Olson and Sean Collins both had a goal and an assist for Virden (3-2-2).
In Friday’s other Showcase games, it was: Dauphin Kings 3, Selkirk Steelers 1; Portage Terriers 4, Neepawa Natives 0; Winkler Flyers 5, Swan Valley Stampeders 4 (SO); and OCN Blizzard 3, Steinbach Pistons 1.
Kings 3 Steelers 1
Tommy Hrazdira, Jeff Archibald and Jesse Sinatynski all scored for Dauphin (3-1-0) to lead the Kings to victory. Souris’ Tanner Butler and Deloraine’s Sutton Olson picked up assists and Jeremy Pominville made 27 saves. Parker Thomas replied for Selkirk (2-3-1).
Terriers 4 Natives 0
Dylan Butler had a goal and an assist and Bryce Lipinski added two helpers for the Terriers (4-1-0). Tyler Anton, Lyndon Lipinski and Matt Glowa also scored and Adam Iwan stopped 22 shots to earn his first shutout of the season. Corey Koop made 33 saves for Neepawa (2-4-0).
Flyers 5 Stampeders 4 (SO)
Brandonite Tanner Jago scored once in regulation time and once in the shootout to lead Winkler. Dylan Reimer replied with a pair of goals for Swan Valley.
