Hamm chasing lead at 5-pin bowling nationals

Brandon’s Garry Hamm sat in second place heading into yesterday’s late games at the Canadian Open 5-Pin Bowling Championships in Calgary.

Hamm scored 1,962 pins in his first seven games in the men’s singles competition on Wednesday. He closes out the round robin with six more games today, with the top five players advancing to the stepladder playoffs.

Meanwhile, Brandon’s Nicole Sentner, Neepawa’s James Boxshall and Manitoba’s mixed team are just outside of a playoff position. Manitoba won four of its six games on Thursday and sits in fifth place with 51.5 points, half a point behind Ontario, with six games to be played today.

In the men’s team event, Manitoba, which includes Minnedosa’s Brandon Mansell, has bleak playoff hopes despite winning three of its games on Thursday.
