A big week has earned Virden Oil Capitals forward Corey Haverstick the nod as the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s player of the week.
The 18-year-old Winnipeg native fired five goals and set up two more in three games to lead the Oil Capitals, who hold first place in the Sher-Wood Division at 19-11-1.
Haverstick currently leads the Oil Capitals in scoring with 16 goals and 31 points in 30 games.
Meanwhile, the wheeling and dealing Dauphin Kings completed yet another trade on Monday, acquiring 20-year-old forward Justin Valentino and a fifth-round pick in the 2014 MJHL bantam draft from the Swan Valley Stampeders in exchange for Dauphin’s first-round selection in next year’s draft, as well as future considerations.
Valentino has five goals and 29 points in 28 MJHL games so far this season.
