Mike Hellyer is back with the Quad City Mallards.
The 27-year-old Brandonite, who won the Central Hockey League’s rookie of the year award with the Mallards last season, has returned to the Quad Cities after taking part in training camp with the ECHL’s Bakersfield Condors and the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League.
A former University of Manitoba Bison, Hellyer scored 23 goals in 63 games with the Mallards last season. He led CHL rookies with 38 assists, 61 points and a plus/minus of +15, but suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Mallards’ first playoff game.
Hellyer had 98 points in 135 CIS games over five years with the Bisons. He spent four years in the Western Hockey League with the Prince Albert Raiders, tallying 143 points in 262 career games.
