Brandonite Clayton Heppner finished his race in one hour nine minutes 52 seconds to place 26th overall in the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final sprint triathlon for male runners aged 25 to 29 in Edmonton on Friday.
Heppner, who turns 25 later this year, finished his 750-metre swim in 12:48, his 19.74-km bike ride in 31:50 and the five-kilometre run in 20:10. There were 59 competitors in the event, with Great Britain’s Edward Castro topping the field with a time of 1:01:18.
Meanwhile, Brandonite Martine McGregor finished 30th in the 20-to-24-year-old women’s sprint triathlon with a time of 1:25:33. The 21-year-old took 13:25 for the swimming portion, 40:06 for the cycling part and completed her run in 25:22. Canadian Severine Bouchez topped the 38 competitors in the age group with a time of 1:08:40.
