The Hartney Hoppers will get to play the deciding game of the South West Baseball League final at home after a 7-4 road win over the Hamiota Red Sox on Wednesday.
The Hoppers managed only four hits but took advantage of seven walks, including three drawn by Taylor Bertholet, who also went 1-for-1 at the plate. Dane Cowan and Evan Holder each went 1-for-4 with two runs scored for the Hoppers, who tied the best-of-five series 2-2. Game 5 is set for Friday in Hartney at 6:30 p.m.
Brett Braybrook went 2-for-4 and scored two runs for the Red Sox, while Chris Obach was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Justin Knight doubled and walked, driving in two Hamiota runs. Finn Druwe pitched five innings for the win, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks. He also hit four batters and struck out one. Holden pitched two innings of one-hit ball for the save.
Starter Logan McGonigal went just two-thirds of an inning for the Red Sox before Taylor Madsen came in and went the rest of the way, taking the loss despite allowing only two hits. Madson struck out eight batters, but walked six and gave up four runs.
