Del Cowan went 3-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base as the Hartney Hoppers beat the visiting Hamiota Red Sox 5-3 on Friday night to win their first South West Baseball League title in their 12-year history.
Nick Cowan doubled, was hit by a pitch, scoring two runs and driving one in, while Trevor Derlago singled, was hit by a pitch and also scored twice.
Ryan Reid went the distance on the mound, scattering eight hits and four walks, with four strikeouts. Two of the runs he gave up were earned. Losing pitcher Manley Mackedenski allowed four runs on nine hits and one walk in five innings, with three strikeouts.
Greg Facey went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for the Red Sox, who led the best-of-five final series 2-1 before dropping the final two games. Justin Knight reached base three times, twice by walking and once by being hit by a pitch. He scored two Hamiota runs.
