Host Cougars beat Brandon in bantam final

The Southwest Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead and hung on to win their Bantam AAA tournament final 5-3 over the Brandon Wheat Kings in Wawanesa on Sunday.

Tristan Cross, Lane Ganske, Brayden Billaney, Brian Harris and Tyler Kirkup all scored for Southwest, which was undefeated at the tournament. Carson Ransom, Chipper Osiname and Brendan Kokorudz replied for Brandon.

On Saturday, Kokorudz, Alex Cook and Ty Lewis scored to lead the Wheat Kings to a 3-1 victory over Estevan, Sask. Lewis scored twice as the Wheat Kings beat Yorkton, Sask., 5-2 earlier in the day. Kokorudz, Clark Nachtigall and Bryce Webber added singles.

Yellowhead fell 5-0 to Pembina Valley in the third-place game.
