Chris Obach went 3-for-4 and drove in a run to lead the host Hamiota Red Sox to a 3-2 win over the Springfield Braves on the opening day of the provincial Senior AA baseball championship.
Ryan Brooks went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Hamiota, while Derek McGregor held the Braves to two runs — one earned — in 5 2/3 innings for the win.
Ryan Yarjau went 2-for-4 and scored a run for Springfield.
The round robin wraps up today with the playoffs set for Sunday. The final starts at 4 p.m. in Hamiota.
In other games, it was: Minnedosa Mavericks 5, Canadian Tire Cardinals 2; Teulon Cardinals 12, Thompson Reds 4; and Baldur Regals 14, Elkhorn Expos 4.
Mavericks 5 Cardinals 2
Zac Yandeau threw a complete game six-hitter for Minnedosa, while Andrew Richards had one hit and drove in a pair of runs. Dana McNish went the distance on the mound and scored a run for the Brandon-based Cardinals.
Cardinals 12 Reds 4
Matthew Benn homered, doubled, drove in four runs and scored two runs for Teulon. Aaron Friesen allowed three runs and had eight strikeouts in five innings for the win.
Wayne Lagimodiere had two singles and an RBI and also tossed four innings of relief for Thompson, allowing two runs.
