John Hutton hurled a three-hit shutout as the Minnedosa Mavericks earned a 4-0 road win over the Plumas Pirates on Sunday for a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five Santa Clara Baseball League final.
Hutton walked four and struck out seven in the game. Zac Yandeau went the distance for the Pirates, giving up five hits and a walk, while striking out eight.
Andrew Richards was 3-for-4 with a run, an RBI and a double for the Mavericks, who can complete the sweep at home on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Mitch Hutton went 1-for-3 and drove in a run for Minnedosa, while John Lawrence scored twice despite going 0-for-2, reaching base on a walk and a fielder’s choice. Yandeau led the Plumas offence by going 1-for-2 with a walk.
