Brandon’s Israel Idonije has a new home in the National Football League.
The 33-year-old Vincent Massey High School graduate has signed with the New York Giants.
Idonije, a former University of Manitoba standout and top defensive lineman in Canadian Interuniversity Sport, played his first nine seasons with the Chicago Bears before signing with the Lions and playing sparingly last season. He re-signed in Chicago this spring but was cut in June.
The 6-foot-6, 275-pound Idonije has 283 tackles and 29 sacks in 149 career games. He had only 11 tackles and a half-sack as a reserve with the Lions last season after averaging nearly 50 tackles and seven sacks in his previous three years as a Bear.
Albert Breer of the NFL Network reports that Idonije will be paid $955,000 on a one-year deal.
