Jago comes up big for Marlins

Nolan Jago scored twice and drove in three other runs for the Brandon Marlins as they beat the Oak River Dodgers 7-3 in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League on Sunday night.

Elsewhere in the MSBL, it was: Brandon Cloverleafs 3, Reston Rockets 1.

At Andrews Field, Shayne MacGranachan held the Dodgers (5-8-0) to three runs in 5 1/3 innings of work, despite walking 10 and giving up a pair of hits, to pick up the win for the Marlins (10-4-1). Jeff Wiebe came on in relief of MacGranachan and allowed just one hit during the rest of the game.

Taw Fredrickson took the loss after giving up seven runs on five hits in six innings.

Jesse Goertzen was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored for the Marlins, while Fredrickson, Duncan Paddock and Mike McFadden each had a hit and crossed home plate for the Dodgers.

Cloverleafs 3 Rockets 1

In Reston, Justin Funk went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the league-leading Cloverleafs (13-2-0). Sean Dryden gave up one run and five hits in seven innings of work to collect the win, while Funk had an adventurous final two innings on the hill, giving up two hits and walking three, but hung on for the save.

Brody Pinkerton went six innings, surrendering three runs — two earned — and six hits, to take the loss for Reston (4-8-1). Rory Tycoles was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and scored the Rocket run.
