Jago earns Team West tryout

Brandon’s Tanner Jago is one of six Manitoba Junior Hockey League players picked to try out for Team West this month.

The 18-year-old Winkler Flyers defenceman, who was named the MJHL’s rookie of the year in 2011-12, will head to Calgary for the 60-player selection camp on Oct. 28-31 to determine the 22-man roster that will represent Canada West in the World Junior A Hockey Challenge, from Nov. 5-11 in Yarmouth, N.S. Jago was also one of four MJHLers picked to try out last year, but none made the cut.

Jago, who leads all MJHL defencemen with six goals and six assists in 13 games this season, will be joined at the camp by fellow MJHLers Hudson Friesen and Parker Thomas of the Selkirk Steelers, Denis Bosc of the Steinbach Pistons and Kurt Keats and Paul Stoykewych of the Winnipeg Blues.
