Nolan Jago went 3-for-3 with a walk to help the Brandon Marlins move within a point of first place in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League with a 6-2 victory over the Oak River Dodgers on Wednesday night at Andrews Field.
Jago hit a triple, scored a run, drove in another and stole a base for Brandon. Ryan Duncan went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a stolen base for the Marlins (4-1-1), who are nipping at the heels of the league-leading Brandon Cloverleafs (5-1).
Jesse Goertzen struck out eight in seven solid innings for the win. He gave up both Oak River runs on seven hits and three walks. Shayne MacGranachan worked the final two innings for the Marlins.
Mike McFadden was 3-for-4 for the Dodgers (2-5), while Duncan Paddock went 2-for-4 with a steal. Riley Acra hit a double and drew a walk, stealing a base and crossing the plate for one Oak River run and knocking in the other.
Losing pitcher Taw Fredrickson allowed five runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings, with two strikeouts.
