Jones tops Crocus in loss

Drew Jones poured in 30 points, but the Crocus Plainsmen dropped an 83-56 decision to the Miles Mac Buckeyes in their opening game Friday at the Vincent Massey Trojans varsity boys high school basketball tournament.

Taylor Maloney added 12 points for the Plainsmen, who will now face Brandon’s Vincent Massey Vikings today after the Vikings dropped their opener 71-53 to the host Trojans yesterday. Jeremy Lucio led Massey with 18 points, while Iain Cowie grabbed nine boards.

In other basketball action:

• The Souris Sabres are 2-0 at the Treherne Tigers varsity girls tournament. Souris beat Grandview 87-38 behind 16 points from Sarah McKenna and defeated Treherne 58-38 as Sarah Palson had 34 points and 20 rebounds.
