Juniors top Czechs

Brandon Wheat Kings forward Jayce Hawryluk helped Canada beat the Czech Republic 6-2 in their first exhibition game of Hockey Canada’s national junior team development camp in Montreal.

Playing on a line with Sam Bennett and Brendan Perlini, Hawryluk did not register any points. Frederik Gauthier, Anthony Duclair and Haydn Fleury each had a goal and an assist for Canada. Curtis Lazar, Nick Paul and Sam Reinhart scored the other Canadian goals.

David Pastrnak and Jakub Vrana replied for the Czechs.

Zachary Fucale and Tristan Jarry shared the duties in the Canadian net, with Fucale shutting out the Czechs over the first half of the game.

Calgary Hitmen defenceman Travis Sanheim of Elkhorn is also in the camp but didn’t play in Tuesday’s game. The Canadians are back in action tonight, when they take on Russia in Sherbrooke, Que.
