Virden’s Wyatt Kalynuk was picked by the Lincoln Stars in Phase 2 of the United States Hockey League draft.
The Stars picked the defenceman in the eighth round, 125th overall. The first phase on Monday was for players born in 1998, while players born in other years were eligible for the second phase.
Kalynuk, who turned 17 last month, played in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League this season with his hometown Virden Oil Capitals, picking up a goal and 12 assists in 56 games. In October he committed to play for Western Michigan University, starting in 2016-17.
