Brandon Midget AAA Wheat Kings rookie Tanner Kaspick has earned the nod as the Chicken Chef West Division player of the week.
The impressive 14-year-old forward — who had to get permission to move up from bantam to play in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League this season — was in on six of Brandon’s nine goals last week, while notching a +5 plus/minus rating and extending his point scoring streak to seven games.
Kaspick set up a pair of goals in Brandon’s 4-2 victory over the Southwest Cougars, added two more assists in a 3-0 shutout of the Eastman Selects and then had a goal and an assist in Sunday’s 2-1 triumph over the Interlake Lightning as Brandon stretched its winning streak to 13 straight games.
Shawn Bowles of the Yellowhead Chiefs was the runner-up for the award.
Meanwhile, goaltender Hayden Dola of the Lightning was named DeKalb East Division player of the week after stopping 113 of the 121 shots he faced (.934 save percentage), including 44 of 46 in the loss to the league-leading Wheat Kings (15-2-0).
