Kings clinch top spot

Aubrey Chapman of Killarney scored the game-winning goal in the third period of Sunday’s game for the Dauphin Kings as they locked up top spot in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Sher-Wood Division for the third straight year.

Souris’s Tanner Butler and Brandonite Brayden Cuthbert also scored for the host Kings (38-17-2) in their 4-3 win over the Neepawa Natives.

Elsewhere, it was: Waywayseecappo Wolverines 4, Virden Oil Capitals 2; Portage Terriers 3, Steinbach Pistons 0; and Winnipeg Blues 4, Winkler Flyers 2.

On Saturday, it was: Kings 3, Terriers 2 (SO); Blues 4, Oil Capitals 2; OCN Blizzard 3, Wolverines 0; and Selkirk Steelers 3, Pistons 2.

At Dauphin, Dylan Butler also scored for Dauphin. Drake Lindsay, Brady Bouchard and Riley Hillis replied for the Natives (13-40-5).

Wolverines 4 Oil Capitals 2

At Virden, Cole McCaig and Brenden Luschinski both had a goal and an assist for the Wolverines (18-37-3), while MacGregor’s Mitch Wiebe made 18 saves. Oak Lake’s Brandon Masson and Kevin Pochuk replied for the Oil Capitals (32-21-3).

Terriers 3 Pistons 0

At Steinbach, Riley Hay and Jaryd Wiebe both scored once and set up each others’ goals as the Terriers (36-15-7) moved a point up on the Pistons (38-16-2) for second place in the Addison Division. Zac Robidoux made 26 saves for the shutout, while Zach Rakochy stopped 30 shots for the Pistons.

Blues 4 Flyers 2

At Winkler, Brett Brooks netted a pair of markers for the Blues (31-20-6), who netted three goals in the final frame. Tristan Keck and Michael Sofillas had a goal and an assist for the Flyers (18-35-4).

Kings 3 Terriers 2 (SO)

At Portage la Prairie, Cameron Whyte of Virden and Tyler Garrioch scored in regulation time, while Jared Morris was the only player to score in the shootout for the Kings. Brad Bowles and Taylor Sanheim of Elkhorn set up Matt Alexander’s marker for the Terriers, who also got a goal from Devin Muir.

Blues 4 Oil Capitals 2

At Winnipeg, Warren Callis scored a pair of goals and set up another for the Blues. Jake Dudar and Corey Haverstick replied for the Oil Capitals, who got 30 saves from Adam Iwan.

Blizzard 3 Wolverines 0

At Waywayseecappo, Killarney’s Brian Archibald made 31 saves for his first career MJHL shutout, while Tyler Grove added a goal and an assist for the Blizzard (19-34-5). Wiebe stopped 28 shots for the Wolverines.

Steelers 3 Pistons 2

At Steinbach, Erik Pushka, Soren Fredriksen and Brett Dudar all found the back of the net for the league-leading Steelers (46-7-4). Justin Augert and Tyler Penner replied for the Pistons.
