The Dauphin Kings lost their game, but kept a streak intact on Tuesday.
Despite blowing a 2-0 first-period lead in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Swan Valley Stampeders on Tuesday, the Kings have earned points in eight straight Manitoba Junior Hockey League games.
In Tuesday’s other MJHL contests, it was: OCN Blizzard 4, Waywayseecappo Wolverines 3; and Portage Terriers 7, Virden Oil Capitals 2.
At Dauphin, Landon Peel of Virden scored midway through the third period to force overtime, before Max Flanagan and recently acquired Richard Olson scored in the shootout for Swan Valley. Brayden MacDonald also scored in regulation as the Stampeders (18-8-2) moved within two points in the Kings (19-6-2) for second place in the Sher-Wood Division.
Jon Gaudet and Francis Alarie both scored for the Kings, with Gaudet adding Dauphin’s only shootout goal.
Landon Noel stopped 34 shots for Swan Valley, while Dauphin goalie Jeremy Pominville made 26 saves.
Blizzard 4 Wolverines 3
At Waywayseecappo, Justin Waskewitch scored twice, while Brandonite Josh Elmes had a goal and an assist for the league-leading Blizzard (21-8-3). Roger Tagoona also scored for OCN.
Brett Lafond had a goal and an assist for the Wolverines (12-12-3), who also got markers from Zane Morin and Russell Turner.
Terriers 7 Oil Capitals 2
At Portage la Prairie, Bryce Lipinski had a hat trick for the Terriers (14-9-1).
Former Brandon Wheat Kings defenceman Dylan Kuczek had his first goal as a Terrier, with Regan Stire, Riley Hay and Devin Muir also finding the net. Brandonite Taylor Wells set up two Portage goals.
Goals from Brandon native Cody Nelson and Souris product Jordan Greig couldn’t prevent the Oil Capitals (10-13-4) from suffering their fourth straight loss.
