Kirkup claims award

Virden’s Karissa Kirkup of the Westman Wildcats has been named the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League player of the week.

Kirkup, the Wildcats’ captain, had four goals and two assists in two games last week to give Westman a 2-0 lead in their best-of-5 semifinal series with the Winnipeg Avros. The Wildcats finished off the Avros with a 4-2 victory on Wednesday night in Hartney and will meet the winner of the other semifinal series between the Pembina Valley Hawks and the Central Plains Capitals.
