The Westman Wildcats’ undefeated run at the Mac’s AAA Midget Hockey Tournament was stopped in Monday’s semifinals in Calgary.
However, they didn’t go home empty-handed as Virden’s Karissa Kirkup was named the tournament MVP, a first-team all-star and also earned the plus/minus award after scoring five goals and notching seven points in five games.
The Hartney-based Wildcats dropped a 1-0 decision to the eventual champion Edmonton Thunder, with Elizabeth Salyn’s first-period goal standing up as the game-winner. The Wildcats, members of the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League, had finished first in their pool with three wins and a tie to advance to the semifinals.
