The Brandon Knights missed the playoffs at the western Canadian Midget AAA baseball championship in Chilliwack, B.C., but the team ended the season on a winning note.
The Knights were officially eliminated on Saturday when they fell 8-7 to the Tri-City (B.C.) Indians, but bounced back with a 9-5 win over the Spruce Grove (Alta.) White Sox on Sunday to finish the event with a 2-3 record.
Dale Penner went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three driven in against the White Sox, while Mitch Lyall was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish with a run and an RBI.
Brad McLeod earned the win in relief on Lyall, whose team scored five times in the top of the seventh to pull out the victory.
On Saturday, the Knights gave up a pair of runs in the bottom of seventh to fall to the Indians.
Marshal Burgess tripled and drove in three runs in the game for Brandon, while Bradley Schoonbaert was 2-for-2 at the dish and scored three times.
Clark Whelpton took the loss on the mound.
