Mitchell Lyall pitched into the seventh inning and added three hits at the plate to lift the Brandon Knights to the western Canadian Midget AA title in Swift Current, Sask., on Sunday.
Lyall fanned three batters in 6 1/3 innings as the Knights topped the host Swift Current Indians 6-2. Clark Whelpton retired the final two batters to close out the game.
Offensively, Lyall hit a double and two singles, driving in two runs. Marshal Burgess added a double, a single and two runs scores.
Brandon went 3-1 in the round robin to earn first place going into the final, beating Swift Current 9-7 in the last game of the preliminary round. Brent Wiebe struck out seven batters and allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings to earn the win in the first game against the Indians. Dustin Asham hit two singles and scored a run.
On Saturday, Shayne MacGranachan earned the win on the mound as Brandon beat the Prince George Knights 14-4.
