Carerra Lamoureux poured in 17 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Brandon Bobcats women’s basketball team fell 83-56 to the Calgary Dinos at the Healthy Living Centre on Friday night.
Brandon (0-19) hung with the Canada West-leading Dinos (16-3) through three quarters, trailing by only 15, but the Dinos blew the game wide-open in the fourth.
Kaela Cranston scored nine and Aimee Johnston had eight for the Bobcats, while Erika Romanow led the Dinos with 20 points.
In last night’s men’s game, Canada West’s third-leading scorer Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson notched 18 to lead the Dinos (12-7) to an 88-63 win over the Bobcats (4-12).
Ilarion Bonhomme had 14 points and Turell Scott added 12 to lead the Bobcats.
Tonight, the Bobcats and Dinos close out the weekend series at the Healthy Living Centre, with the women’s game starting at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, in volleyball action out west, the Bobcats women’s volleyball team was swept 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-23) in Kelowna, B.C., as the UBC-Okanagan Heat improved to 14-7 on the season.
The loss all but ends the Bobcats’ (8-13) chances of qualifying for the playoffs, essentially needing the 10th place Regina Cougars to win both matches games against Calgary to force a tiebreaker.
Victoria Dakin led the Bobcats with 10 kills, while Kellie Baker had 26 assists.
The Bobcats men’s volleyball game versus the Heat was still in progress at press time.
