Lewis leads Brandon bantams

Ty Lewis was involved in half of the Brandon Wheat Kings goals as they finished their preliminary-round group at the provincial AAA Bantam hockey championship in Stonewall with a 1-0-1 record.

Lewis led Brandon with one goal and one assist as it opened the event with a 3-2 win over the Parkland Rangers. Jackson Stephens and Connor Gutenberg also scored for the Wheaties. They followed that up with a 3-3 tie against the Central Plains Capitals. Lewis, Stephens and Sam Huston all scored for Brandon, which will play in today’s playoff round.

In Friday’s other games, it was: Eastman Selects 7, Westman South Cougars 1; Cougars 8, NorMan Wolves 4; and Pembina Valley 4, Yellowhead Chiefs 1.

Selects 7 Cougars 1

Mitch Dillabough scored Westman South’s lone goal as they dropped their tournament opener. Braeden Binda had a hat trick for Eastman.

Cougars 8 Wolves 4

Braden Billaney had two goals and one assist for the Cougars, who wrapped up their preliminary round with a 1-1 record. Brian Harris added two goals for Westman South, which got singles from Cole Kirkup, Kyle Elliott, Dawson Waddell and Tristen Cross.

Hawks 4 Chiefs 1

Morgan Geekie netted the lone marker for Yellowhead, which will wrap up its preliminary round today against Interlake (1-0). Logan Christensen led Pembina Valley with one goal and two assists.
