All three Westman teams at the provincial AAA/AAAA high school junior varsity basketball championships fell to the consolation side of the tournament on Thursday.

In the girls’ event at Sanford, the Virden Golden Bears won their opening game 78-27 over Sanford Sabres before losing their quarter-final 70-35 to Lord Selkirk Royals. They will meet the Vincent Massey Vikings, who fell 49-34 to Glenlawn Lions in their first-round game, in a consolation quarter-final today.

Meanwhile, at Winkler, the Crocus Plainsmen fell 73-18 to the Garden City Gophers in their first-round game at the boys’ championship. They will play the Edward Schreyer Barons today.
