Logan leads Sabres

Radney Logan rushed for 155 yards and a touchdown to lead the Southwest Sabres to a 14-0 win over the Parkwest Outlaws Friday in the Rural Manitoba Football League in Shoal Lake.

Logan carried 18 times, including a 15-yard TD to lead the Sabres in the season opener in the nine-man high school football league. In other action, the expansion Moosomin (Sask.) Generals edged the visiting Virden Golden Bears 29-28, the Dauphin Clippers beat the Swan Valley Tigers 28-7 and the East Parkland Warriors beat the Neepawa Tigers 50-8.

Nathan Doull caught three passes for 56 yards and raced 13 yards for a TD for Souris. Quarterback Zach Miner completed seven of 15 passes for 81 yards, while Seth Walker led the Souris defence with six tackles, a forced fumble and a blocked punt.

For Parkwest, QB Reggie Waddell completed six of nine passes for 59 yards, while Shaun Hunter had five catches for 64 yards. Michael Matiation led the Parkwest defence with seven tackles.

Generals 29 Golden Bears 28

In Moosomin, Sask., Carrigan George carried eight times for 147 yards, including touchdown runs of 12 and 64 yards, to lead Virden. Mac Troughton had 22 carries for 114 yards, while Triston Turner racked up 108 yards on nine carries, including a 12-yard TD run. Virden QB Logan Roach completed four of 14 passes for 53 yards, with a 15-yard TD toss to Trey Colbeck. Defensively, Andrew Enns had five tackles and half a sack for Virden.

Clippers 28 Tigers 7

In Swan River, Dauphin quarterback Matt Kish completed nine of 18 passes for 123 yards and rushed for touchdowns of two, 20 and 25 yards. Chase MacDonald carried three times for 83 yards, including a 65-yard TD run for the Clippers, while Logan Thacker led the defence with 11 tackles and one interception.
